Ordre des évaluateurs agréés du Québec conference: Sylvain Bélair to speak on the Expropriation Act

Montreal, October 21, 2021 – On November 12, 2021, Sylvain Bélair, partner in Municipal Law and Expropriation, will be a speaker at the Ordre des évaluateurs agréés du Québec’s conference (or OEAQ, Quebec’s association of professional appraisers). Entitled Une réforme de la Loi sur l’expropriation : rumeur ou réalité, the presentation will explore the Expropriation Act. The Act, which will soon be 50 years old, is considered by many experts to be in need of revision in order to better adapt to contemporary realities. Sylvain Bélair will also share his thoughts on how to optimize the acquisition process through expropriation while ensuring a fair balance between the rights of the parties and the protection of the rights of private owners.

Recognized for his extensive expertise in municipal law and public administrative law, Sylvain Bélair’s practice covers many aspects, including expropriation. He has represented landlords and tenants in numerous expropriation cases, including Highway 30, the Saint-Laurent Technoparc and the Turcot interchange cases. He is currently representing several expropriated landlords of the REM and the Blue Line of the Montréal metro. Sylvain Bélair has also developed an expertise in claims for damages for disguised expropriation.
