Frequently Asked Questions.

What does a typical day at DGC look like?

No two days are alike! First off, we don’t have a mandatory rotation system. We want you to grow in the areas you’re interested in. Depending on the day, you may be called on to appear before the courts, research case law or draft pleadings. Our goal is to provide you with a comprehensive experience, making sure you’re involved at every step of a file.

What’s the interview process like?

As per the Entente de recrutement, we’ll be holding two interviews. We see these interviews as a chance to get to know each other. We’ll tell you more about the firm, ask you open-ended questions to get to know you and simulate situations to test your skills.

Is there a billable hour target?

We do not have a billable hour target for articling students. We believe that it’s important for you to focus on learning without added pressure, so you won’t be evaluated on your billable hours.

What are you looking for in an articling student?

Aside from academic background, we value qualities like integrity, teamwork, business acumen, client service, a sharp mind, autonomy, and involvement in charitable, cultural, sport or community organizations. We also see ourselves as an entrepreneurial firm. That’s why we’re looking for entrepreneurially-minded articling students who share this vision.

De Grandpré Chait cares about providing a friendly work environment. You’ll be invited to join a range of social and sporting activities organized by the firm’s social committee and associates’ council. We also organize happy hours.

Various people will support you throughout your articling period, starting with your articling supervisor. You will also have mentors and coaches who will be there to listen and help you. Like all other employees at the firm, you will have support from the IT, business development and marketing, HR and internal services departments.
