It is with great regret that the firm announces the passing of one of its founding partners, Me René-C. Alary, on November 30, 2023, at the venerable age of 95.
An emblematic figure in municipal law, and particularly expropriation law, René-C Alary chaired the important Alary Commission, which led to the reform of the Expropriation Act in 1973. This law remained in force for 50 years, until it was amended in November 2023.
An energetic man brimming with ideas and great humanism, he chaired the firm’s Board of Directors for many years. He was a mentor and friend to many of the lawyers who practiced with the firm. Generous with his time and skills, it was he who laid the foundations of what is still today one of the best municipal law groups in Quebec.
The firm offers its condolences to all members of the Alary family, including Isabelle Alary, Head of Human Resources at the firm, and the Honourable Christiane Alary j.c.s., who was a partner before becoming a judge.
