Seth Abbey practises in business law, with a particular interest in entrepreneurship. His practice focuses on private equity/venture capital financing, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, technology, multigenerational planning and transfers and acting as general counsel for small and medium-sized businesses. With both a law and a business degree from McGill University, Seth understands the interconnectivity of the two worlds and tailors his legal advice so it is pragmatic and effective.

In his work, Seth guides his clients through the business lifecycle from the critical work of building the foundation of a business with preparing a shareholders’ agreement to ensure harmonious collaboration, setting up a tax-efficient structure and securing protection of the business’s intellectual property and competitive advantage, to advising on negotiating crucial funding rounds, customer, supplier and distributor agreements and then the eventual exit with the sale of the business. In terms of advising families on passing the torch from one generation to the next, Seth takes a proactive approach in creating mechanisms for dialogue and future role building to enable a smooth and gradual transition.

He has advised businesses and corporations that went on to receive awards and nominations such as Top 50 in Canada, Great Place to Work, 2020 Best Cloud-Based Market Data Delivery Solution, Canada’s Companies-to-Watch in Deloitte’s Technology 2020 Fast 50 Awards, Growth 500 (2019), Profit 500 2016: Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies and more.

Seth is passionate about his profession and helps train the next generation of entrepreneurs by giving talks and supporting initiatives such as the Young Investors Challenge. He is also active with several charities.
