Beth Trister, a senior lawyer, is recognized for her expertise in intellectual property law, specializing in trademarks. With a rich and diverse career both in private practice and as in-house counsel, she practiced for over eleven years as senior counsel for an international entertainment company, where she managed and oversaw an extensive trademark portfolio in nearly 100 territories worldwide. Subsequently, Beth acted as in-house senior legal counsel for a Canadian publicly traded telecommunications and media company. Her expertise also extends to domain names, data protection, privacy and the protection of personal information, highlighting her commitment to evolving intellectual property matters. In addition, Beth deals with matters relating to the application of the Quebec Charter of the French Language.
Academically, Beth Trister is an accomplished scholar. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in civil law (LL.B) from Université de Montréal as well as a Bacherlor’s degree in science, with honors, in biochemistry from McGill University. Beth also holds a Bachelor of Common Law degree from York University – Osgoode Hall Law School. Beyond her legal practice, Beth has distinguished herself as a teacher and speaker. She has led workshops on trademarks as part of the “McGill IPIC Trade-marks I Course,” showcasing her commitment to education and sharing her knowledge.
Active in the legal community, she is a member of various advisory groups within the College of Patent and Trademark Agents (CPATA). A member of the Quebec Bar since 2001 and a trademark agent since 2003, Beth is passionate about reading, writing, and finding innovative solutions, and is constantly engaged in learning and problem-solving related to the application of the law.
